Womb Wealth & Wellness Herbal Tea Blending Workshop & Self-Care Experience at the Lotus Detox & Wellness Centre  – July 2024 Recap

In July 2024, Aguma Tea proudly partnered with Travel Deeper Inc to host the Journey to Womb Wellness herbal tea blending workshop at the Lotus Detox & Wellness Centre in Accra. The serene atmosphere of the centre, known for its focus on holistic health, was the perfect backdrop for a day dedicated to the exploration of how herbal teas can support women in managing cervical health issues such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, endometriosis, and other fertility-related conditions.

A Gathering of Women Seeking Wellness

The workshop attracted a diverse group of women from different walks of life, each sharing a common desire: to take control of their reproductive health in a natural, holistic way. For many attendees, the challenges of PCOS, fibroids, and endometriosis were all too familiar. These conditions not only affect physical health but often impact emotional wellbeing and quality of life. Symptoms like hormone imbalance, acne, facial hair, heavy menstrual cycles, and chronic pain can feel overwhelming and, at times, isolating.

But at the Journey to Womb Wellness workshop, the message was clear: there is hope, and herbal teas can be a gentle yet effective tool in managing these issues and promote fertility and comfort.

The Power of Herbal Teas in Supporting Womb Health

Herbal teas have been used for centuries to promote balance and healing within the body. Their natural properties can soothe inflammation, regulate hormones, and offer relief from the many symptoms associated with cervical issues. As we explored various herbs throughout the day, two teas emerged as particularly powerful allies for women managing womb health—spearmint tea and matcha.

Spearmint Tea: A Hormone Balancer for PCOS

One of the highlights of the workshop was our discussion on how spearmint tea can help manage symptoms of PCOS, a common condition caused by a hormonal imbalance. PCOS often results in elevated levels of androgens (male hormones), which can lead to acne, excessive facial hair, weight gain, and irregular menstrual cycles.

Research has shown that spearmint tea is effective in reducing these elevated androgen levels, helping women with PCOS to restore hormonal balance naturally. It’s particularly beneficial for managing hirsutism (excessive facial and body hair), which is one of the most distressing symptoms for many women with PCOS.

As we sipped spearmint tea during the workshop, participants reflected on the simplicity of incorporating this herbal remedy into their daily routine. Many women were excited to learn that drinking two cups of spearmint tea per day could offer noticeable improvements in their symptoms over time. One attendee, Ama, shared her story: “I’ve struggled with facial hair for years and never thought something as simple as tea could help. Learning about spearmint tea today has given me hope.”

Matcha: An Anti-Inflammatory Powerhouse for Fibroids and Endometriosis

Next, we turned our attention to matcha, a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Matcha has gained widespread popularity for its antioxidant-rich properties, but at the workshop, we delved into its lesser-known benefits for womb health, particularly for conditions like fibroids and endometriosis.

Both fibroids (non-cancerous growths in the uterus) and endometriosis (a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it) are driven by inflammation and excess estrogen. Matcha’s high levels of catechins, a type of antioxidant, make it a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. By reducing inflammation and promoting liver health (which is crucial for estrogen detoxification), matcha can help ease the symptoms associated with these conditions.

During our blending session, we prepared a warm matcha latte, mixing the vibrant green powder with plant-based milk. This soothing drink offered a grounding experience as we discussed the importance of consistency in herbal tea consumption. Matcha, with its gentle detoxifying properties, can be incorporated into daily life to support the body’s natural processes of hormone regulation and inflammation reduction.

One participant, Aisha, shared her experience with matcha: “I’ve been dealing with endometriosis for years, and the pain can be unbearable. I never realized that something as simple as matcha could help reduce inflammation. I’m excited to start incorporating it into my routine and see if it makes a difference.”

Herbal Tea Blending: Crafting Custom Blends for Womb Wellness

The highlight of the workshop was the tea blending session, where participants had the opportunity to create their own personalized herbal tea blends. We provided a selection of herbs that support reproductive health, and guided each woman through the process of choosing herbs based on her individual needs.

Many chose to combine spearmint with peppermint for a refreshing and hormone-balancing blend, while others gravitated toward ginger and cinnamon for their warming, anti-inflammatory properties. We also explored the benefits of red raspberry leaf, a classic herb used to tone the uterus and support fertility, and chasteberry (vitex), known for regulating menstrual cycles.

As we worked with the herbs, there was a sense of empowerment in the room. Each woman was not only learning about the healing properties of the herbs but also taking an active role in crafting a blend that would support her personal womb wellness journey.

Creating a Self-Care Ritual with Herbal Teas

One of the key takeaways from the Journey to Womb Wellness workshop was the importance of creating a self-care ritual around herbal tea. Too often, women feel disconnected from their bodies, particularly when dealing with chronic conditions like PCOS, fibroids, or endometriosis. Herbal teas offer a way to slow down, tune in, and nurture both body and spirit.

We encouraged participants to set aside time each day for their tea ritual—a moment of calm in the midst of busy schedules. Whether it’s enjoying a warm cup of spearmint tea in the morning to start the day, or sipping matcha in the afternoon for a gentle energy boost, these rituals help women reconnect with their bodies and reclaim their health.
